Unfinished Labs’ first project — the introduction of the open source Decentralized Social Networking Protocol — became the foundation of Project Liberty, an initiative that seeks to accelerate the world’s transition to an open, inclusive data economy. Frank McCourt formally announced Project Liberty in Paris in June 2021. The launch of Project Liberty included the announcement of the McCourt Institute, an independent establishment dedicated to researching technology that serves the common good. The two foundational partners of the institute are Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and Sciences Po in Paris. McCourt tapped Jacques-Henri Eyraud, the French entrepreneur, academic, and former head of Olympique de Marseille, to lead the institute. McCourt founded Unfinished, and Unfinished Labs, its research and development arm, in 2020.
Project Liberty has also engaged all sorts of policy experts to think through thorny questions about establishing guardrails and governance structures in this new online world. One of those is the Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, who received funding from Project Liberty for a “Duty of Care” initiative to study harms and identify best practices to deter them. Project Liberty is a visionary initiative to transform how the Internet works, who owns and controls personal data, and who benefits from the digital economy. This is a global problem – one that can’t be solved by regulatory tweaks.

Shortly after purchasing the team, McCourt fired then General Manager Dan Evans, replacing him with Paul DePodesta. DePodesta is featured in the book Moneyball as it discussed their sabermetric-based approach to using statistics to build the Oakland A's. At the time, DePodesta said of Choi, "I think we've acquired one of the better offensive players in the league." McCourt students are impatient changemakers who don’t want to wait until they graduate to have a positive impact. Many put their classroom learning to work through co-curricular and extracurricular programming– global residencies, spring break immersions, and policy labs– which provide valuable hands-on experience. “What I mean by that is that technology is just a tool, like a hammer.
The MPP emphasizes analytical skills, enabling graduates to be highly effective in designing, analyzing and implementing policy in the US and around the globe. The event included a free public exhibit by artist Refik Anadol, titled "Project Liberty Experience" after the founding initiative of Unfinished. The audiovisual work featured a large, cylindric tower covered in screens that displayed massive amounts of data as small, shimmering pictures that reacted to viewers. McCourt announced in 2019 that he would donate the Los Angeles Marathon and parent company Conqur Endurance to The McCourt Foundation, a Boston-based philanthropic organization overseen by his cousin, Brian McCourt. The vision for combining the entities was to catalyze the social impact potential of both organizations by creating a bicoastal portfolio of events that promote healthier communities. The McCourt Foundation is “dedicated to enhancing the lives of patients and families affected by health-challenges within the neurology community and beyond,” and hosts several endurance sport events to raise funds and awareness for neurological health.

Social media has actually been the hammer that's killing people, not the hammer building homes." McCourt believes that the dominance of a few Golathian social media platforms will give way to “a thousand Davids” that better cater to smaller communities with more specific interests and needs. This has already begun, with apps like BeReal and Mastodon gaining huge interest in the past half-year. Many also argued that social media has also created internal conflict in the U.S. For instance, roughly 64 percent of Americans say the platforms do more to divide than unite them, according to a 2021 NBC poll. McCourt argues that democracy cannot function without the social trust.
On October 14, 2009, it was announced the McCourts would be separating after nearly 30 years of marriage. He has claimed that the divorce has "no bearing on the team whatsoever." The Dodgers assets acquired by McCourt included significant real estate assets related to the stadium in Chavez Ravine, including stadium parking lot land. Plans were announced for new real estate developments at Dodger Stadium however those plans never came to fruition. One discussed plan was for an NFL stadium and adjacent retail complex.

The Frank McCourt Museum officially opened by Malachy McCourt in July 2011 at Leamy House, Hartstonge Street, Limerick. This Tudor-style building was formerly known as the Leamy School, the former school of Frank and his brother Malachy. The museum showcased the 1930s classroom of Leamy School and contained a collection of memorabilia, including items such as school books of the period and old photos, all donated by former pupils of the school. As well as having a large selection of Angela's Ashes memorabilia, the museum had recreated the McCourt home as described in the book using period pieces and props from the Angela's Ashes motion picture.
Before buying the Los Angeles Dodgers, McCourt made a bid to buy the Boston Red Sox planning to build a new stadium on the land he owned and used for parking lots on the South Boston waterfront. Instead, the Red Sox were sold in 2002 to John W. Henry, Tom Werner and Red Sox President Larry Lucchino. McCourt Equipment is the rental solution provider needed for short or long term needs. The 63,000 rabid fans were chanting and jumping up and down non-stop the entire 90 minutes, and setting off massive fireworks , both inside and outside the stadium that had me jumping out of my socks. It was one of the wildest expressions of both individualism and tribalism that I have ever witnessed. “We called our first project ‘unfinished questions,’ and we crowdsourced questions from people around the world, asking them the one question that they were dying to get an answer for right now, or is of grave concern. You may have heard of Frank McCourt (not the late author of Angela’s Ashes), during his up and down tenure as owner of the LA Dodgers. There's an entire book or film to be made about that time, though McCourt may not be so keen on either being produced. While Project Liberty will undoubtedly face a slew of challenges in its road toward adoption, McCourt is convinced the effort will be worth it for democracy as a whole.
Items in the museum were auctioned in 2020, and the founder and curator Úna Heaton plans to write more about him and his times. In October 2009, the New York City Department of Education, along with several partners from the community, founded the Frank McCourt High School of Writing, Journalism, and Literature, a screened-admissions public high school. The school is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan on West 84th Street. The Frank McCourt School is one of four small schools designated to fill the campus of the former Louis D. Brandeis High School. The first principal of the school is Danielle Salzberg, who previously served as acting principal at Khalil Gibran International Academy and as an assistant principal at Millennium High School in New York.
Located in Paris and Washington, D.C., the McCourt Institute will bring an international perspective to the work of strengthening digital governance. We aim to draw on lessons of the past and present-day expertise to publish first-class, timely insights and develop solutions for a better digital future. Accused McCourt of greatly exaggerating his family's impoverished upbringing and hammering his mother. McCourt was defended by Limerick socialist TD Jim Kemmy, who described Angela's Ashes as " the best book ever written about working class life in Limerick". Many of his Stuyvesant High School students remembered quite clearly the mordant childhood anecdotes he continually told during sessions of his senior-level Creative Writing (E7W-E8W) elective. Reviewers in the US had high praise for his first memoir, including the literary critic for The New York Times.
In particular, social media has faced criticism in recent years for its negative health effects on users. For instance, Facebook has come under fire for concealing its harmful impact on adolescent women. Facebook's own research found that 13% of British users and 6% of American users who experienced suicidal thoughts tie the desire to kill themselves back to Instagram, according to the Wall Street Journal. Other studies have repeatedly connected social media use with mental illness.
On October 17, 2011, the McCourts reached a settlement in their divorce case whereby Jamie would receive about $130 million and relinquish her claim on the Dodgers. This ended what is widely believed to be the costliest divorce in California history. Finley hit 13 home runs for the Dodgers in his two months with the team.
